As a lover of design, I want to see this one for the chance to watch Drew Struzan's process. How does the idea go from mind to paper? The insights and information will be fascinating I hope. Plus I love the reference to Masters of the Universe which is one of the GREAT movie posters of all time. Thanks to Erik for reminding me of the impact of Struzan's work. So in Cave of Cool fashion, I bombard you with examples of the Master's work. Lucky is the artist that find his medium.

What with all my Cave of Cool contributions, I think its high time I got that coveted Intern's Parking Space.
Ahem... I'm been flowing Drew's style for as long as I can remember. He definitely takes his roots from illustration greats like JC Leyendecker with his blocky style of paint rendering and storytelling style. He clearly had roots in fashion illustration as well.
While geeks like us know his best for the big action adventure blockbusters like Star Wars and Indiana Jones, it amazes me how he could work flawlessly in any genre. He did posters for goofy comedy films like Police Academy, Meatballs, and Cannonball Run. He also covers jaunty family features like the Muppet Movies and even a few of the Disney Animated Features while also doing horror pictures like The Thing, Squirm and Abomidable and could still wrap a bow around his career by doing posters for moody, human-spirit dramas like The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. The has very versatile subjects!

Actually Erik you need to start adding some of this stuff to your own blog. Or, maybe, yes, contributing a post a week to this blog. I never do that but I am willing. I know sometimes you are chomping at the bit and you should but your spin on the things we both seem to enjoy or see value in.
You're absolutely right Kal! I really need to get my act together if I want people to flock to my own blog. I used to do weekly posts about famous artists, which got me quite a bit of attention, but it cut into the time I worked on my own art, which is what I want my blog to be about. Then again, my inspirational picture files have gotten bigger since then and I do consider myself a storyteller first and artist second so I can definitely run with that.
Its just a matter of figuring out were too start. Maybe I'll use Drew here as a springboard, my top ten favorites pieces of his or something. I'll get back to you on that. Thanks!
