I don't know what I would I do with these modern sets. All the imagination is already built into the toy so it would be boring to play with unless I can add gun emplacement to the roofs. Plus where are the alien invaders?

To be fair this is also true of the newer boys sets, especially the ones based on movies. Remember when the boxes would show different ways you could build the kit. Look at the new ones THe X wing box only shows the X-wing, in different positions, the Falcon? more pieces, same thing. Bilbo's hobbit hole 2 instruction books to build only for one configuration. It seems to take the imagination out of the whole product line if you ask me. Rant over.
I used to want to have sets with TMNT and the various super-heroes for LEGOS... I guess I'm on the opposite side of the fence, although I don't completely understand the girl sets... As that one, at least, isn't a licensed property....
I can see collecting one THEME like the steampunk stuff or the ancient Egypt stuff. I have a StarGate lego set that I got from Sears. Hundreds of pices, nothing fancy...but allows you to build the Stargate and other vehicles.

I bought it for my nephew in Australia but I figured they wouldn't let me take it on the plane so I kept it for myself. But this is a cool set. I don't hate Lego I just resent that I didn't have stuff this complex when I was a kid. Just squares and rectangles.
