Bettany already looks like a robot and acts like one in most films I have seen him in so this is a good casting choice. He already does the voice of Jarvis, the Avenger's computer so it's not such a stretch.
The Vision was an android created by the robotic villain Ultron, who was meant to be one of Ultron’s henchmen but who instead turns against him and becomes a hero.

Ultron, Scarlet Witch and now The Vision, its all coming together!
I think it makes a lot more sense that Tony Stark's Ultron will utilize his creator's precious A.I. computing software system- JARVIS and turn it into an android like him. Hence, Paul Bettany as The Vision!
