As Long As They Don't Name Her Thoradonna!

Marvel is excited to announce an all-new era for the God of Thunder in brand new series THOR  written by Jason Aaron (Thor: God of Thunder, Original Sin) complimented with art from Russell Dauterman (Cyclops).

This October, Marvel Comics evolves once again in one of the most shocking and exciting changes ever to shake one of Marvel’s “big three” – Captain American, Iron Man and Thor – Marvel Comics will be introducing an all-new THOR, GOD OF THUNDER. No longer is the classic male hero able to hold the mighty hammer, Mjölnir, a brand new female hero will emerge will who will be worthy of the name THOR. Who is she? Where did she come from and what is her connection to Asgard and the Marvel Universe?

“The inscription on Thor’s hammer reads ‘Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.’ Well it’s time to update that inscription,” says Marvel editor Wil Moss. “The new Thor continues Marvel’s proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute - she’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!”

I hope the action figure looks good when it comes out and it WILL come out.

The woman of my dreams, LOL! I'm putting my money on "Thora" as her name.

Nope...won't be reading this. I don't read new stuff anyway. This won't bring me back.

I know that Donner is the German name for Thor and the more I think about it, the more I'm coming around to liking Thoradonna as a name, actually. But the mere fact that I'm even giving it this much thought shows how badly I need to get a life, doesn't it?

Are they now in competition with DC to find out who can screw up their universe the most? Good Hell Why Would They Do This?

They did this already, in the 1970s, in their What If? series. Jane Foster found the hammer and became "Thordis."

Not going there. Need more women characters, but this just doesn't work for me. Another Asgardian woman character would be better.

They already did the NEW THOR story perfectly in the 80s when they introduced Beat Ray Bill but they had a female Loki so a female Thor seems like it's time. In the future Thor does have a daughter.

It's a retcon of the Angela character currently appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy. Don't worry, haters It'll be fine.

I thought of Angela too. She would fit it perfectly in Asgard.

There was a story not very long ago where THOR himself was transformed into a woman and carried on throughout the story as a woman. It wasn't a case where a woman got a hold of Mjolnir and gained powers and strength He was himself turned into a woman. I don't remember when that was or where or if was a What if story. But I know I read it somewhere.

Okay, I was wrong! Just saw a cover image for the upcoming Marvel Now Avengers series and Angela and New Thor are both featured. Fooled me again, Marvel!
