Everyone Remembers A Store Like This In The Neighborhood

This is my HOOD. Osborne Village, Winnipeg Manitoba. I crossed many busy streets as a toddler by myself to buy some candy from this place. Still as ratty looking as ever, just the way I remember it.

Oh gawd, the Parkette! I wonder if it's still there? My neighbourhood corner store was on Nassau Street. It was run by a nice old Jewish man and his wife when I was a university student. Then his wife died and he sold it to a Korean family. Next time I'm in The Peg, I should see if both these little stores are still operating.

We had a small market run by 2 Asian guys back in the '50s. Corner of Beverly and Pima, Tucson. Got all my sour grapes, Sputnuks, candy cigarettes, 3 Musketeers, fireballs, etc. there. Also Coke, Chocolate Soldier, Pepsi, Root beer, the list goes on. I still live in the same neighborhood and wish they were still there.

It still does exist Debra. This is a picture from someone I know who lives in Osborne and posted it a few days ago. Damn the mix of Candy and bubble gum cards was enormous to a little kid like myself.
